Search continues after flash flood leaves two dead in Arunachal Pradesh

Shillong: Search teams found the body of 30-year-old Ballari Marak on Saturday. She vanished during the June 24 flash flood at the NEEPCO Colony in Arunachal Pradesh. Keyi Panyor Superintendent of Police Angad Mehta confirmed the recovery at noon. Locals identified the woman, who hailed from Bhoirymbong in the Ri-Bhoi district.

The storm claimed another life earlier. Rescuers pulled 35-year-old Nirmala Gupta from the wreckage hours after the flood hit. Now, three others are still missing. The State Disaster Response Force and district police are hunting for Elesh Marak, Tao Anjina, and Sourav Kumar. The work is dangerous.

Persistent landslides keep the Potin-Kimin Road buried in debris. Crews struggle to clear the path, but falling rocks keep the route shut. Police remain on site to manage the chaos. They are prioritizing emergency crews and supply trucks. The SP noted that "priority was being given to the movement of emergency vehicles, essential supplies and engineering equipment to restore road connectivity at the earliest."
