Kohima: Sainik School Punglwa recognized its high-achieving cadets during a school assembly on August 24. Nineteen students from Classes VI through XI walked away with Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards for their work during the 2025-2026 academic session.
Competition remained fierce. Shilloi House secured the Junior category Academic Excellence House Award, while Doyang House took the top honor for the Senior category. The school also distributed the prestigious Cock House Trophies. These awards acknowledge excellence across sports, discipline, academics, and co-curricular activities. Pauna House earned the Junior trophy. Japfu House claimed the Senior title.
The Principal praised the students and staff for their hard work. She told the cadets to maintain high standards and keep pushing for growth. She said, "Strive for continuous improvement and uphold the values of the school in every sphere of life."
Army brass prepped the cadets two days earlier. Lt Col Akshay Singh, Sena Medal, visited on August 22 to push students toward military careers. He walked them through the enlistment process for the Indian Army. The veteran shared stories from his own career to highlight the benefits of life in the service. He drew on his time in Sudan for UN peacekeeping missions, intelligence work, and gritty counter-insurgency operations to prove the value of a life in uniform.

The school clarified that the Academic Excellence House Awards were based on the consistent performance of the student bodies throughout the term. The visit from Lt Col Akshay Singh served as a specific recruitment drive, as the officer focused his talk on the diverse, high stakes nature of a career in the Armed Forces to drive home the appeal of a life in service.
