Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force at Guwahati Railway Station dismantled an organized chain-snatching gang in a targeted operation ahead of the Ambubachi Mela. Security officials launched the effort after a female victim reported that a group of women stole her gold chain in a coordinated attack at the station.

RPF personnel apprehended two of the female suspects at the station shortly after the theft. Authorities continued their search and eventually located the remaining two women near the Kamakhya Temple area. Officials confirmed the recovery of the stolen gold chain and discovered 50,000 rupees in cash on one of the suspects during the search.

Investigators later detained two men linked to the same criminal group. Officials stated that the arrests point toward the existence of a wider network operating in the city. According to officials, the incident took place at the railway station when a group of women allegedly snatched her gold chain in a swift and coordinated attack.

This security crackdown occurs as law enforcement agencies increase surveillance across Guwahati to protect thousands of devotees expected to arrive for the Ambubachi Mela.
