Road closures set for Shillong-Dawki route construction

Shillong: Construction crews are shutting down a section of the Laitlyngkot to Lyngkyrdem road. Pynursla officials ordered the traffic diversion to keep the project moving. Commuters must now take the long way around through Laitlyngkot, Iew Mawiong, Umthli, Nongthymmai, and the Laitkynsew NH Point.

The closure hits twice daily. Crews will block the path from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and again from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Drivers have a small window to clear the area. Movement from both ends of the construction zone stops at 10:30 AM.

Weight limits vary by route. The Laitlyngkot to Pomlum detour only handles light and medium vehicles. If you drive a heavy rig, stick to the Pomlum to Mawlieh stretch, which stays open to all traffic.

The monsoon makes the situation dangerous. Authorities told drivers to "exercise extreme caution" while on the road. Avoid travel during heavy rain and stay home at night if the trip is not necessary.
