RIMS Imphal Marks World Blood Donor Day with Successful Drive

Imphal: The Department of Transfusion Medicine at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, joined forces with the State Blood Transfusion Council of Manipur to observe World Blood Donor Day 2026. The event took place at the RIMS OPD Complex under the theme, One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.

Key leadership figures, including RIMS Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma and Medical Superintendent Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, attended the event. To show their personal commitment, both officials donated blood to encourage public participation in voluntary donation programs.

During his address, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma emphasized the critical medical impact of these contributions. He explained, "Every unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives, including those of accident victims, mothers with obstetric emergencies, children with blood disorders, and patients undergoing major surgeries or cancer treatment."

The event saw 101 volunteers donate blood at the hospital's new transfusion block. Participants received certificates of appreciation, and the ceremony concluded with a communal pledge to promote consistent voluntary donation. Academic heads, students, nursing staff, and various support personnel attended the program to show their support for the cause.
