Imphal: The National Medical Commission just cleared the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal to bump its annual MBBS intake from 125 to 150. This expansion hits the books starting with the 2026-27 academic session. It marks a big win for medical training across the North East.
The school is not stopping there. The National Dental Commission also gave the Dental College at RIMS the go-ahead to start Master of Dental Surgery programs. These post-grad courses will kick off in the same 2026-27 school year.
Students can apply for six different specialties. Each track offers three seats for a total of 18 new positions. The approved fields include Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, Periodontology, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge. Officials noted that these approvals will "significantly strengthen RIMS' academic infrastructure" while broadening the reach of specialist dental training in the region.
