Guwahati: A retired Assam Police Service officer, Girin Chandra Deka, passed away on Sunday after sustaining critical injuries in a violent confrontation. The incident occurred in the Ghoramara area of Guwahati when Deka was involved in a dispute over parking.

Police have taken one suspect into custody regarding the assault. The individual, identified as Sanjit Boro, was tracked down by authorities during an operation in Jorhat. Following the initial altercation, Deka was transported to an intensive care unit for emergency medical treatment but eventually succumbed to his injuries.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. As local authorities continue their investigation, the case has sparked widespread public concern regarding the rise of violent vigilantism and moral policing within the city.
