Agartala: A crowd of local women paralyzed traffic on the Sonamura-Belonia road today. They occupied the highway to protest a worsening drinking water shortage in the area. Tires burned. The blockade brought regional transit to a complete standstill.

Protesters claimed the local government failed to fix broken supply lines or deliver enough water to households. They refused to budge until officials promised an immediate fix. The frustration was clear. "We are forced to block the road because nobody listens to our complaints about thirst," one protester said.

Police arrived on the scene to manage the backlog of cars. Officers worked to clear the thoroughfare while local water department heads headed to the site. The protest ended only after authorities vowed to restore the water supply by week’s end.
