Guwahati: The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council handed out cash and gear to 166 locals on Saturday. The event took place at the Council Secretariat in Udaipur, Dudhnoi. Officials aimed to support medical needs, small businesses, and families struggling with wildlife damage.
Chief Executive Member Tankeshwar Rabha led the distribution. He gave cheques to 36 people battling critical illnesses. Another 53 families received relief funds after dealing with human-elephant conflict. "To promote self-employment, the Council's Small Industries Department distributed sewing machines to 40 trained women entrepreneurs," the agency stated.
Weaving and sericulture received a push too. The Handloom and Textile Department gave Jacquard machines and 8,000 rupees to 32 weavers. Rearers also picked up eri yarn cutting machines to update their operations. Council Chairman Sonaram Rabha and a dozen other executive members watched the handout.
Public health took a front seat. The Council sent new gear to the Dhamra Primary Health Centre. Officials hope these supplies stop the gaps in local care. The aid draws from both the 2023-24 relief fund and the 2024-25 budget.
