Imphal: Ps. Nungjoy officially assumed his role as the new chief of Hnatham Village in Chandel this Friday. He took his oath during a traditional customary ceremony known as Khuruwng Sangkadon, which was held at the local village ground.

Nl. Wolhring, president of the Anallon Chief Association, administered the oath of office. During the ceremony, Nungjoy pledged to serve the community with sincerity and dedication. He told his constituents that if he were to abuse his authority, he would step down from his position. Addressing the attendees, Nungjoy stated, "I pledge before God and Man to use my seat for the right purpose and not misuse it." He also requested the full cooperation of the village authority, youth leaders, women's society, and the Church.

Outgoing chief Wl. Robertson participated in the transition by presenting Nungjoy with a red shawl, a traditional symbol of his new status. Robertson also offered the front leg of a cow as a gesture, encouraging the new leader to move the village forward and lead from the front. The event was moderated by Wng. Lawrence and featured various cultural dances and folk songs.

The installation ceremony drew a wide audience, including members of the Anallon Chief Association, regional Anal Naga village chiefs, and church leaders. Dr. Ss. Olish, the MLA for the 41-Chandel assembly constituency, was also present to observe the proceedings.
