Guwahati: Priyada Gogoi, the mother of Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, died on Wednesday morning in Guwahati. She was 96 years old and had been battling age-related health issues for some time. Her passing occurred at approximately 6:20 am with her son by her side.

The family plans to transport her remains to Selenghat near Mariani in the Jorhat district. There, relatives and close associates will gather to perform her final rites. Following the announcement of her death, numerous political figures and supporters from across Assam shared messages of condolence.

Priyada Gogoi was widely recognized for her dedicated advocacy during her son's political career. During the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, she became a prominent figure in his campaign. While Akhil Gogoi was detained for his role in anti-CAA protests, she campaigned door to door on his behalf. Her public appeals for his release and active outreach are credited with helping him secure his seat as an independent candidate.
