Prime Minister Modi Grants ₹3 Lakh Medical Aid to Padma Shri Chitta Maharaj

Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned financial aid of ₹3 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to support the kidney transplant treatment of Padma Shri awardee Chittaranjan Debbarma. Widely known as Chitta Maharaj of the Shanti Kali Ashram, the spiritual leader is currently receiving care at the Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Kolkata.

Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb confirmed the approval following his request for assistance. Deb stated that he forwarded the application to the Prime Minister’s office immediately after learning about the critical medical requirements of the respected leader. According to official correspondence from May 19, the funding was approved in principle to help cover expenses for the renal procedure.

The sanctioned funds will be released to the hospital upon the submission of final expenditure details. Deb expressed his appreciation for the swift response, noting that the Prime Minister has consistently provided support for urgent medical treatment requests. Chitta Maharaj is recognized for his significant social and spiritual contributions, making him a revered figure in the region.
