Pregnant wild elephant dies after electrocution in Assam village

Guwahati: A pregnant wild elephant died from electrocution in the Mornoi area of Assam's Goalpara district on Wednesday night. The animal wandered into a village from a nearby forest in search of food and accidentally struck a live electric wire.

Forest Department personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to recover the carcass. A post-mortem examination performed on Thursday confirmed the elephant was pregnant, and both the mother and calf were buried according to standard wildlife protocols.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the death, including the condition and origin of the power line. This tragedy underscores the ongoing conflict between humans and wildlife in Assam, where elephants frequently encounter danger while navigating inhabited areas to find food.
