Police shoot suspect after Puri hotel owner stabbed to death

Shillong: A hotel owner in Puri is dead. Pabitra Nayak, 45, died after a group stabbed him at Hotel Manorama on Dhabaleswar Road around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Staff member Chandan Kumar Palar allegedly led the attack.

Baliapanda police arrived at the scene but could not save Nayak. He died before reaching the District Headquarters Hospital. Officers began gathering evidence and tracking the suspects immediately.

Police found Palar hiding in a cashew grove near the Matamath monastery. He opened fire when officers moved in to make an arrest. The cops returned fire, hitting Palar in the leg. Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh said, "The cops in order to protect themselves, retaliated."

Palar is now at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka for treatment. Police have launched a hunt for the remaining suspects. Multiple teams are working to track down everyone linked to the killing.
