Guwahati: Assam police caught two men carrying a country-made pistol and four live rounds in Chirang district. Officers intercepted the suspects near Kalpani Beel on a motorcycle. The bike was heading from Bawpara village toward Palengbari when police moved in.
Authorities identified the pair as Sukur Ali and Abbas Ali, both from Bawpara village. The Panbari police station team seized the weapon and ammo on the spot. The arrest marks a win for local law enforcement. Panbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Binoy Malakar led the operation alongside Sub-Inspector Anwar Hussain.
Bijni SDPO Rupjyoti Dutta and Circle Officer Ritul Muni Das oversaw the scene. Police confirmed they have registered a formal case. Officials are now digging into where the men obtained the illegal gear. They suspect others might be involved. According to officials, the duo was "apprehended while allegedly carrying a country-made pistol along with four rounds of live ammunition." Investigators continue to track the origin of the seized firearm.
