Guwahati: Assam police busted two men carrying illegal weapons in Chirang district on Wednesday. Officers tracked the pair after receiving a tip about arms moving near Kalpani Beel.

Police stopped a motorcycle traveling from Bawpara toward Palengbari. The riders, Sukur Ali and Abbas Ali, had no escape. Officers searched the bike and found a country-made pistol paired with four live rounds of ammunition.

The operation involved a coordinated team led by Panbari Officer-in-Charge Binoy Malakar and Sub-Inspector Anwar Hussain. Bijni Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rupjyoti Dutta confirmed the arrests. "Police have registered a case and launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the origin of the firearm and ammunition," stated officials.

Detectives are now working to find out where the hardware came from. They want to know if the men are part of a larger criminal network moving guns through the state.
