Agartala: Police in Tripura arrested one man and confiscated a significant shipment of cannabis on Wednesday, May 27. The seizure occurred during a vehicle check in the Kamalpur subdivision of the Dhalai district.

Officers set up a checkpoint at the Srirampur naka point after receiving a tip that a vehicle smuggling contraband was traveling from the Khowai district. Upon stopping the car, police discovered 85.5 kilograms of cannabis divided into 152 individual packets.

Authorities also found two sets of license plates inside the vehicle that shared the same Assam registration number. This discrepancy led investigators to suspect that the smugglers were using fake or duplicate plates to avoid detection. The street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be worth several lakh rupees.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene. Police have opened an investigation to determine where the drugs originated and to identify other individuals involved in the trafficking network.
