Imphal: Security forces pulled over a Mahindra Bolero on Tuesday in Imphal East, netting over seven kilograms of suspected heroin. The bust went down on Kongpal Chingangbam Road after the occupants tried to dodge a police patrol. Officers arrested Bigyan Baniya, 21, and Manoj Chettry, 27, at the scene.

A joint team handled the raid. The crew included the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, the Central Reserve Police Force, and members of Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Manipur. Assistant Sub-Inspector M Rinash Meitei led the operation after getting the green light from top brass. The officers searched the SUV and found 168 soap cases stuffed with the illicit haul.

The gross weight of the seized narcotics hit 7.051 kilograms. Police took the men and the vehicle to the Porompat Police Station to start formal legal proceedings. Investigators are now digging into the supply chain to find out where the drugs came from and who else is involved in the operation. Authorities confirmed that "further investigation is underway to determine the source of the seized contraband and identify other persons linked to the alleged drug trafficking network."
