Police Search for Parents of Newborn Abandoned at Shillong Hospital

Shillong: Authorities are searching for the parents of a newborn boy abandoned at Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong on May 25. The incident at the state’s primary maternal health center has prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child being left behind.

Sadar Police have registered a case under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers the abandonment of a child under twelve years old. Convictions under this law can result in a prison sentence of up to seven years. The infant is currently receiving care at the Specialized Adoption Agency in Nongthymmai Lum Sohphoh.
