Guwahati: Cachar police recovered stolen tin sheets worth Rs 15 lakh in Lakhipur. Officers handcuffed three men, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to six. This heist involves a complex web of truck diversions and illicit sales.
Jarif Uddin Laskar, who runs M.M. Hardware, ordered the load from Burnihat on May 20. The shipment never reached his shop. Instead, the driver steered the cargo into the shadows. Police tracked the empty truck to the Kalain area and grabbed the driver and two cronies early in the investigation.
Interrogations led investigators to Himon Das and Satyabrata Adhikari. The pair acted as middlemen for the stolen goods. Police raided a warehouse at Joypur New Market owned by trader Sushanta Dey and found the stash. Investigators said, "A portion of the stolen consignment had already been sold."
A Lakhipur court tossed the three suspects into judicial custody on June 30. Officers are still hunting for more participants in the theft. The investigation remains active.
