Imphal: A live hand grenade turned up at the front gate of a contractor’s home in Imphal East on Tuesday. The device sat at the residence of a man identified as John in Kongpal Kongkham Leikai. A note attached to the explosive read Last Warning. The threat rocked the neighborhood.
Police sent the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad to the scene after a WhatsApp tip alerted them to the danger. Experts neutralized the device before it could detonate. No one got hurt. Property remains intact.
Local women led a sit-in protest at the market shed that evening to voice their fury. Groups including the Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Welfare Association and local athletic clubs joined the rally. They held signs demanding an end to planting bombs in crowded residential zones.
A. Radhamani of the Welfare Association Nupi Lup demanded answers from the cowards behind the act. "Had the grenade exploded, innocent lives could have been lost. Who would have taken responsibility?" she asked the crowd. She pushed for open dialogue instead of violent threats.
Police opened a case to track down the suspects. No group has stepped forward to claim the attack yet. Neighbors are now pressing officials for better security to stop the cycle of fear.
