Gangtok: Sikkim police arrested a 41-year-old man on Saturday after uncovering a stash of illegal drugs. Officers stopped a service taxi traveling from Siliguri to Yangang. They acted on a specific tip-off. A search of the vehicle turned up 40 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. People often abuse this medicine as a narcotic.

Police took the man into custody under the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act. Officials confirmed the arrest follows an increase in patrols along the Siliguri corridor. Traffickers frequently use this route to smuggle controlled substances into the state.

Authorities are still hunting for the supplier. Officials said, "Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the consignment and identify others who may be involved in the illegal trade." Detectives expect more arrests as the case moves forward.
