Guwahati: Police in the Dibrugarh district of Assam have taken a local resident into custody following a late-night operation targeting cattle theft. Officers from the Gabhurupathar Police Outpost detained Hriday Gogoi of Bokul Japisajia village after receiving intelligence regarding his potential involvement in criminal activities.
During the 2 am raid at the suspect's residence, authorities recovered a black luxury vehicle believed to be connected to recent cattle thefts. Investigators discovered that the vehicle was fitted with a fake registration number plate. Outpost in-charge Alankar Bora led the team that secured the scene and took the suspect in for questioning.
Under preliminary interrogation, the suspect attempted to distance himself from the findings. Gogoi reportedly claimed that "an unidentified person had left the vehicle at his residence" and denied participating in any criminal acts.
Law enforcement officials are now working to determine the full extent of the vehicle's involvement in the theft cases. The investigation remains active as authorities search for other individuals connected to the operation.
