Guwahati: Police pulled a 19-year-old’s body from a shallow grave in a Kokrajhar tea garden on Saturday. Beniyash Murmu, from Khanthalguri village, had been missing for days. He was dead.

Investigators say Murmu was lured to Amguri on June 30 under the guise of attending a local event. Once there, he was killed. Two men, Elvias Murmu and Sunil Tudu, allegedly carried out the killing and buried the body at a site in Ranipur.

Sunil Tudu is now in police custody. During questioning, he led officers to the burial site. According to Officer-in-Charge Manush Narzary, the "prime accused, Elvias Murmu, remains absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him."

Police currently suspect a romantic dispute involving the main suspect’s wife triggered the violence. They are still working to confirm the motive as the investigation drags on. Officers from both Kokrajhar and Chirang districts are leading the manhunt for the missing suspect.
