Guwahati: Authorities detained six individuals, including three women and three men, during a raid on an alleged prostitution operation in Silchar on Sunday night. The police action targeted a residence located on the 14th Lane of Second Link Road following persistent reports of anti-social behavior from local neighbors.
Community members had raised concerns about the activities at the property for an extended period. Tensions flared during the operation when, according to residents, associates of the suspected ring attempted to use sharp weapons against police officers and onlookers. Authorities managed to neutralize the threat and proceeded with the investigation.
The raid sparked significant public outcry as residents gathered to protest what they perceived as a delayed police response to their ongoing grievances. The community claims the house is owned by Niyati Das, who allegedly leads the racket. While she remains at large, officials report she managed to flee before officers arrived. Protesters are now calling for her immediate capture and stern legal consequences for everyone involved.
Police are currently questioning the detainees to uncover further details about the network. An official stated, "The detained individuals are being questioned and further investigation is underway to identify other persons connected to the case." Search efforts remain active as authorities work to locate the primary suspect.
