Guwahati: Bajali police tracked down and arrested five men linked to the theft at the historic Madanmohan Gosai Than Satra in Banglipara. Officers solved the case within days of the July 7 heist. The suspects smashed locks to clear out over 100 traditional xorais and other valuables.

The thieves thought they were clever. They trashed the CCTV system and stole the hard drive to cover their tracks. Police identified the main suspects as Razzak Ali, Sahar Uddin, and Dilbar Ali. They also picked up Hazrat Ali and his son Rashidul Islam from Kalgachia for moving the stolen loot.

Detectives have already found some of the stolen trays, though they are in rough shape. Senior Superintendent of Police Shantanu Kumar Dutta says the hunt for the rest of the gear continues. "The investigation is still underway to recover the remaining stolen property and determine whether more people were involved in the crime."
