Police Bust Interstate Drug Ring in Jiribam

Imphal: Jiribam police officers intercepted a Honda i20 on Monday night, uncovering 5.145 kilograms of suspected opium. The car was heading toward Jiribam from Imphal when the Special Mobile Patrol Unit pulled it over around 8 pm.

Officers arrested the two occupants on the spot. The men are Dhanraj Prajapat, 46, and Buddha Ram, 44, both from Rajasthan. Police also seized their mobile phones and cash during the stop.

The duo pointed to a local supplier during questioning. They identified the man as Heishnam Meghachandra from Thanga in Bishnupur district. A joint team of police units swarmed his home in the early hours of the morning.

Police took Meghachandra into custody during the raid. Investigators are currently holding the suspect at Lamphel Police Station. According to police sources, the investigation is ongoing as they "attempt to unravel the wider network behind the alleged interstate drug trafficking operation."
