Guwahati: Kamakhya Government Railway Police nabbed two men with 7.37 lakh rupees in counterfeit notes at Guwahati’s Kamakhya Railway Junction late at night. Officers moved on a tip and raided Platform Number 1. They caught the suspects red-handed.
The arrested men are Dayal Das, 59, and Golab Sheikh, 51. Both hail from the Pakur district of Jharkhand. The bust yielded a stash of fake bills ready for transport. Police suspect the pair planned to move the cash back to Jharkhand to flood the market with bogus money.
Interrogations point to a larger operation. The suspects allegedly bought the fake notes from a mystery contact in Guwahati’s Rajgarh area. Investigators claim the pair traded 2 lakh rupees in real cash for the counterfeit stash. "The Kamakhya GRP is continuing to interrogate the two accused to ascertain the source of the fake currency and identify others involved in the racket," a police spokesperson noted.
Authorities have officially registered a case against the men. Police are now chasing leads to dismantle the interstate network behind this currency scheme.
