Shillong: Police in Shillong finally registered a case against a male nurse at NEIGRIHMS after public outcry over an alleged molestation. The suspect faces accusations that he touched a minor patient inappropriately on July 4.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the development on Thursday. He noted the victim already underwent a medical exam. "The case has been registered and the victim has been examined. The accused has been issued a notice for examination and interrogation," Syiem said.
Authorities have not made an arrest yet. The nurse is currently in Shillong but remains unavailable for questioning because of high blood pressure. The KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle brought the incident to the public eye after the girl's family filed an initial report at the Mawdiangdiang Police Outpost.
A KSU delegation met with the hospital's Medical Superintendent to demand action. The hospital leadership intends to wait for the police investigation to conclude before taking internal disciplinary steps. Meanwhile, the KSU continues to push for better safety measures to protect children and women inside the facility.
