Guwahati: Authorities in Assam's Kamrup district arrested an alleged drug dealer on June 4 following an anti-narcotics operation in the Tupamari area. Sub-Inspector Champak Kalita, who led the raid, launched the operation after receiving reports of illegal drug trafficking near the Nagarbera Police Station.

Police spotted the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Md. Hurmuz Ali, while he was near the 3 No. Tupamari Panchayat office. Ali attempted to escape on foot once he noticed the officers, but police caught him after a short chase. During the search, officers recovered 26 plastic vials filled with suspected heroin.

Officials confirmed the total weight of the recovered substance was 24 grams, excluding the containers. A police spokesperson stated that the "suspected narcotic substance was seized in accordance with legal procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses." Police have opened a formal case and are continuing their investigation to uncover the broader distribution network connected to the seizure.
