Police Arrest Prime Suspect in Sivasagar Diesel Fraud Case

Guwahati: Sivasagar Police have arrested the primary suspect in a major diesel fraud and theft investigation. Authorities apprehended Subhash Das on June 7 following a search operation that began earlier this month.

The investigation launched after police conducted a raid near Station Chariali on June 2. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Maidul Islam searched two abandoned warehouses and recovered more than 30 drums filled with stolen diesel. Officials confirmed that the fuel was linked to a theft from a petrol depot owned by Nemchand and Manikchand.

Investigators allege that Das purchased diesel worth approximately Rs 1.8 lakh and fled the scene without providing payment. The depot owners filed a formal complaint, which prompted the initial police response. Regarding the ongoing investigation, police stated, "Further arrests are not being ruled out" as they determine if additional individuals participated in the racket.

Police previously arrested two other suspects, Mustak Khan and Ishfaq Ahmed, who are currently being held in judicial custody. Das had remained at large until his capture in Sivasagar town this week.
