Guwahati: A joint operation by the Rupahihat and Kawoimari police departments in Assam led to the arrest of an elderly woman suspected of running a long-term narcotics operation. Officers identified the suspect as Mumtaz Begum, a resident of the Kawoimari Bazaar area.

Authorities launched the raid after receiving a confidential tip-off regarding illegal drug activity at the home. During the search, police recovered 1.07 kilograms of cannabis, which was seized as evidence. Officials have taken Begum into custody at the Rupahihat Police Station.

Police are currently conducting a detailed investigation to determine if the suspect is part of a larger distribution network. According to police sources, she had allegedly been involved in the cannabis business for a considerable period. Legal proceedings against the woman are underway as officers continue to examine her potential ties to wider narcotics activities in the region.
