Guwahati: Guwahati police seized four luxury vehicles and rounded up 14 people after a birthday party stopped traffic on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Flyover. Videos of the stunt went viral, showing a red carpet laid across the asphalt for a private cake-cutting ceremony. The disruption forced other commuters to dodge parked cars.

Officers impounded a Land Rover Defender, a Mercedes-Benz, a Mahindra Scorpio, and a Honda City. Investigators believe these vehicles blocked the roadway. Bharalumukh Police took businessman Gautam Baruah into custody on Tuesday for his alleged role in organizing the event for his wife.

Authorities registered a case under Sections 125, 285, and 270 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayanta Sarathi Bora said authorities launched an investigation after footage began circulating. "Police have registered a case (No. 79/2026) under Sections 125, 285 and 270 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."

Public outrage erupted online as clips of the event hit social media. Critics called out the blatant disregard for traffic rules and the danger posed to motorists. The investigation continues as police determine further legal steps for those involved.
