Guwahati: Manipur cyber police caught 23-year-old Roshan Singha at Imphal Airport on June 25. He faces charges for a Rs 19 lakh sextortion scheme targeting a nurse he met years ago. Singha stands accused of lying about his identity to manipulate the victim. He pretended to be a local from Kumbi Bazar while the victim worked in Kolkata.

The two eventually met in Guwahati after Singha promised marriage. He convinced the woman to quit her job in Bangalore. They stayed at a hotel before travelling to Imphal together. Singha later returned to Assam and resumed his demands. He claimed his family needed medical money. The victim paid repeatedly to help him.

Things turned dark in February 2025. Singha sent a video clip he secretly recorded during their hotel stay. He threatened to show her family the footage if she stopped paying. The victim finally told her aunt about the abuse. She realized his name was not local and his background was fake. "The victim complied out of fear, eventually discovering that the accused’s true identity was Roshan Singha of Cachar, Assam, and not a local from Kumbi Bazar," the prosecutor stated.

Police tracked Singha down at the airport terminal. They seized his phone during the arrest. A court remanded him to police custody until June 29.
