Kohima: The Phokhungri Area Public Organisation (PAPO) coordinated a widespread bamboo plantation drive on May 23, 2026. This initiative spanned all ten villages under the organization's jurisdiction and marked the official observance of Bamboo Plantation Day.

Residents, community leaders, youth groups, and village authorities joined the effort to promote environmental conservation and local self-reliance. The drive followed a formal resolution passed by the PAPO Central Executive Council. By planting bamboo, the organization aims to secure a sustainable resource that supports both domestic needs and economic development.

PAPO highlighted that bamboo is vital for ecological restoration, soil conservation, and creating new livelihood opportunities for rural communities. Following the event, the organization thanked all participants for their active involvement and urged them to continue nurturing the young saplings. They emphasized that this collective commitment is essential for preserving the environment for future generations.
