Imphal: Schools throughout the Pherzawl district in Manipur marked World Environment Day 2026 by hosting a series of tree planting drives and educational programs. Organised by the Pherzawl Forest Division, the events sought to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among local youth and community members.
The activities followed the theme A Step for Both Our Mother and Our Mother Earth. This campaign also supported the national Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 initiative, which encourages people to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers while simultaneously supporting ecological health.
Students, teachers, and forestry staff collaborated to plant trees on school campuses and held sessions focused on the value of natural resource protection. These interactive events were designed to emphasize the importance of sustainable living from a young age.
Niangthianhoi, IFS, stated, "Engaging students at an early stage is crucial for building a culture of sustainable living and long-term environmental stewardship." By involving the local community, the Pherzawl Forest Division aims to promote collective action in securing a greener and more resilient future for the region.
