Kohima: The Phek district administration joined forces with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board to host an environmental awareness event on June 12. Held at the DC's Conference Hall in Phek, the session aimed to address pressing ecological concerns and improve local sustainability efforts.
Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori addressed the gathering, emphasizing that maintaining a clean environment is a shared duty. He urged local residents to integrate responsible waste management into their daily routines. During the event, Nguori stated, "pollution control was a collective responsibility and urged citizens to adopt better waste management practices as part of their daily lives."
Technical experts from the state pollution board provided detailed presentations throughout the day. Rongsenben Longkumer, a Junior Scientific Assistant, and Scientist B Yanathung Kithan led discussions on ambient air quality and the long-term impact of solid waste management on the local environment.
The programme was chaired by Shevohu Nienu, the chairperson of the Phek Town Council. Additional District Commissioner Thejakhrienuo Nisa opened the proceedings with a welcome address for the attendees.
