Kohima: The Phek District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PDCCI) convened its fourth Annual General Meeting on May 15 at Uko Cafe in Chozuba Town. Hosted by the Business Union Chozuba Town, the event was held under the theme Strengthening Local Economy through Responsible Leadership and gathered executives and representatives from affiliated business organizations throughout the district.
During his keynote address, PDCCI president Razoukhruyi Dozo underscored several critical challenges facing the sector. He advocated for increased government support to improve the ease of doing business, specifically calling for solutions to multiple taxation issues and a review of the NLTP Act. Dozo highlighted that over 95 percent of businesses in Phek are managed by local entrepreneurs, framing this as a testament to the burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit within the Chakhesang community and the broader region.
The discussion also focused on the necessity of fostering youth opportunities and bolstering local entrepreneurship to ensure competitiveness in a changing market. Former PDCCI president Chetezo Akami offered an exhortation to the attendees, reminding the business community that as many are first-generation entrepreneurs, they must prioritize professionalism, courtesy, and dedication in their operations.
Rhutsuyi Rhakho, president of the Business Union Chozuba Town, opened the proceedings by emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration among various trade bodies. Throughout the meeting, participants engaged in extensive deliberations regarding institutional reforms, strategic district policies, and long-term economic development goals aimed at enhancing the overall welfare of the local business community.
