Kohima: Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru convened a meeting with apex tribal hohos and civil society organizations on June 10 to coordinate preparations for the upcoming Census 2027. The event, held at the district conference hall, gathered representatives from groups including the Nagaland Zeliang People Organization, Kuki Inpi Nagaland, and various youth and student unions.

During the session, officials emphasized the necessity of collecting authentic data. The district has already designated 46 supervisors and 250 enumerators, alongside a reserve force, to manage the process. Meru urged local leaders to assist in the effort to ensure complete coverage, stating, "I urge citizens to ensure that no one is left out during the enumeration process and called on tribal leaders and civil society organisations to actively support census officials."

SDO (Civil) Sentilong Ozukum provided an overview of the census history and confirmed that this cycle will mark India's first digital enumeration. He also highlighted the Self-Enumeration Portal, which will be accessible for the House Listing Operation from June 16 to June 30, 2026. This portal allows citizens to complete the registration process online.

The meeting concluded with a call for organizations to amplify public awareness regarding the census. Authorities hope that widespread cooperation will ensure the accuracy of the data collected during the operation.
