Shillong: P Patel is preparing to file a contempt petition against the principal of St. Edmund’s School in Shillong. He alleges the institution has ignored a recent High Court of Meghalaya order that mandated the immediate restoration of his son’s school admission.
On May 22, Justice Wanlura Diengdoh quashed the school's decision to cancel the student's enrollment. The court labeled the action as arbitrary and a violation of natural justice, directing the school to finalize admission formalities and welcome the student back to class within one week.
Despite the court ruling, the student remains out of school. Patel reported that the family is under significant stress as the academic year progresses and other schools have refused to accept the child mid-session. He noted that the school is reportedly attempting to challenge the high court judgment before a division bench.
Patel expressed frustration over the lack of assistance from the state government or the Education Department. Beyond the immediate academic hurdles, he voiced concerns about the child's future environment if he returns to the school. Patel emphasized that his primary goal is to ensure his son can continue his education without further delay.
