Kohima: The Naga People's Front Noklak division hosted a thanksgiving event on June 26 for P. Longon. He recently stepped into his new role as advisor for the Department of Taxes. The celebration took place at his private residence in Noklak. Party leadership and local supporters packed the house to mark the occasion.
Longon previously served as the minister for Health and Family Welfare between 2015 and 2018. He thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for the new assignment. He told the crowd that holding a portfolio was “like a shed that provides shelter to the people,” and asked his team for steady support. Longon vowed to work hard for the community.
Imosong, the Joint Commissioner of Taxes, spoke about the department. Revenue collection remains the primary goal. He reminded attendees that the national Goods and Services Tax system launched back in July 2017.
Local party heads gave speeches throughout the day. Weisang, S. Chollen, and L. Ngon offered their congratulations. They all expressed faith in Longon's ability to lead. Members from the NPF Youth, Women, and Farmer wings attended the program to show their support.
