North Tripura Man Detained After Alleged Machete Attack on Wife

Agartala: A domestic dispute in the Dewanpasha area of North Tripura escalated into a violent attack late Tuesday night, leaving a woman with severe injuries. Local police have detained Joydev Barman after he allegedly attacked his wife, Shilpi Barman, with a sharp machete at their home in Dharmanagar.

Witnesses reported that the couple had been experiencing ongoing marital issues before the situation turned physical. When the altercation escalated, Joydev allegedly struck his wife multiple times. Neighbors intervened after hearing the victim's screams, prompting the suspect to flee the immediate area.

Emergency responders from the Dharmanagar Fire Service arrived shortly after being notified. They transported the victim to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where medical staff reported she suffered deep neck wounds and significant blood loss. She remains in critical condition under intensive care.

Officers from the Dharmanagar Police Station launched an investigation into the incident and quickly apprehended the husband. Authorities are now working to determine the circumstances that led to the violence, as the community faces widespread concern following the attack.
