Nongpoh Elaka Sirdarship Breaks Ground on First Permanent Office

Shillong: The Nongpoh Elaka Sirdarship is moving toward a permanent administrative home after decades of operating without a dedicated facility. Cabinet Minister Sosthenes Sohtun laid the foundation stone for the new three-storey building on Wednesday, located near the National Highway-6 lay-by shops.

During the ceremony, officials unveiled the architectural plans for the structure, which is designed to modernize local government services. Attendees included Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Umsning MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Acting Sirdar Luistar Lyngdoh, and local headmen.

To jumpstart construction, Minister Sohtun announced a contribution of Rs 8 lakh. Both MLA Syiem and Dr. Lyngdoh also pledged financial support, committing Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively. Sohtun called the project a historic step for the region, emphasizing that a permanent base is vital for improving welfare and governance. He promised to pursue additional funding to guarantee the completion of the complex.
