Shillong: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will travel to Meghalaya on June 15 to inaugurate several national highway projects and participate in the North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition. This visit aims to bolster connectivity throughout the Northeast as part of the central government’s broader strategy to enhance regional trade and tourism.
While in Shillong, Gadkari is scheduled to lay the foundation stones for multiple highway initiatives at the Polo Ground. Officials stated that these developments will significantly improve transportation for passengers and goods while increasing accessibility to remote areas. Recent expansions of the national highway network have already shown success in opening new avenues for development across the region.
During his visit, the minister will also join the CEOs Round Table at the summit, known as NEIINFRA 2026. This two-day event brings together policymakers, investors, and business leaders to discuss progress in energy, digital connectivity, urban infrastructure, and logistics. Organizers described the event as a strategic effort to promote the region's potential, noting that "NEIINFRA 2026 has been envisioned as a platform to showcase the Northeast as a promising hub for infrastructure investment."
The summit will feature various thematic sessions and exhibitions focused on emerging technologies. Beyond formal discussions, the program is designed to facilitate direct engagement through business-to-business and government-to-government interactions to accelerate growth in the sector.
