Guwahati: Assam Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah released a new pictorial brochure on Thursday at Lokhora Kona. The document lists 125 butterfly species found inside the Garbhanga Reserve Forest. Officials from the Kamrup East Forest Division and Aaranyak teamed up to produce the guide. Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania joined senior forest department staff at the event.
Garbhanga sits on the southern edge of Guwahati. It holds significant ecological value. Researchers have identified more than 270 butterfly species in this area over time. The team behind the brochure included Nayanjyoti Moran, Dr. Pranjal Kr. Das, Rumana Maheen, and Udayan Borthakur. They aim to inform nature lovers, students, and conservationists.
"The documentation and dissemination of biodiversity information are expected to help improve public awareness of the forest’s ecological importance and support conservation efforts."
The creators hope this resource pushes people to better appreciate the region. It serves as a tool for visitors and researchers alike. The forest remains a top priority for biodiversity protection in Assam.
