New Gender Resource Centre Opens in Mawkynrew to Protect Minors

Shillong: Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh inaugurated a new Gender Resource Centre at the Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School in Jongksha on Friday. The facility aims to strengthen social accountability and provide a dedicated space for tackling crimes against minors in the region.

During the launch, Lyngdoh emphasized the importance of community sensitization regarding gender justice, child rights, and legal protections. The centre will serve as a platform to educate men on their responsibilities, with a specific focus on child support obligations and cases related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The MLA raised concerns about the increasing number of social crimes involving children and called for a collaborative approach to address these issues. Villagers can now visit the centre to receive professional counseling, legal guidance, and information on various welfare schemes.

The project was established under the Mawkynrew C&RD Block by the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society in partnership with the Rympei Treikam CLF Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
