NEHU Tura staff launch indefinite strike over pay grievances

Shillong: The Tura Campus Staff Welfare Association at North-Eastern Hill University launched an indefinite pen down strike on Tuesday. The industrial action follows the administration's persistent failure to address long-standing demands for equal pay for equal work.

Association president Tangseng G. Momin notified Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla that the protest stems from decades of inaction by both local and national authorities. Momin stated, “The agitation is due to the complete failure to resolve the matter, both at the highest and the local level for decades. Our agitation is not a one day thing and is something that is backed by the Department of Personnel and Training for the implementation of the recommendations.”

Beyond the primary wage dispute, the association is pushing for a formal review of Department of Personnel and Training orders and arbitrary promotion practices. The staff members are also calling for the immediate release of gratuity payments, the implementation of employee provident fund registration, and more consistent salary disbursements for casual workers.
