Itanagar: A massive cloudburst hit Arunachal Pradesh on June 24. It tore through the Keyi Panyor district. The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation confirmed 54 staff quarters suffered damage during the event. Exactly 24 of those units were washed away by floodwaters.
Munim Chaudhury, head of the NEEPCO hydro project at Yazali, addressed the situation following rumors about the destruction. He dismissed outside speculation, standing by the corporation's official count. He noted that a seasonal stream shifted course and swelled into a destructive torrent through the Poosa and Potin areas.
The company set up a relief camp at Vivekananda School within the colony. They currently serve three meals a day to more than 300 people. "Speaking to India Today NE, Munim Chaudhury, Head of Department (HOD) of the NEEPCO Hydro Project at Yazali, dismissed what he described as speculative claims regarding the extent of the damage and said the figures released by the corporation were the official assessment."
NEEPCO provided direct food aid for the first two days after the storm. They have since outsourced meal production to keep the relief effort running. The corporation is working with local officials to help displaced staff members and process support for the family of one deceased employee.
