Itanagar: Naharlagun police arrested 19-year-old John Loda on June 9 following two violent incidents involving stalking and attempted assault in Naharlagun and Nirjuli. A police team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev apprehended the Seppa native after a targeted investigation into crimes reported on June 7.
The first incident occurred around 3:00 AM when a woman reported that an unknown intruder tried to force entry into her home. Police discovered the suspect on the property carrying two pairs of scissors while attempting to gain access through windows and doors. Shortly after, a second incident was reported in the Lekhi area of Nirjuli at 3:30 AM. An intruder entered a woman's rented room while she was asleep, attempted to cover her mouth, and used scissors to cut her clothing.
The second victim managed to fight back, sustaining minor injuries to her face before the attacker escaped. Authorities utilized technical investigation methods to track the suspect, leading to his arrest and the start of legal proceedings. Superintendent of Police Dr. Nyelam Nega praised the victims for their quick action in reporting the crimes.
"Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, Dr. Nyelam Nega, commended both women for their courage and for reporting the incidents promptly, which aided the investigation," the department stated. Officials are now urging residents to secure their homes by locking doors and windows overnight. Police confirmed they are prioritizing women's safety across the Capital Region and will continue to take strict action against offenders.
