Guwahati: A student organization in Nagaon, Assam, is targeting the HAM-EK Group of Institutions with allegations of degree fraud and financial misconduct. Representatives Shibaranjan Barua and Himanka Sarma addressed the press on August 2 to detail the claims. They say the school sells fake degrees and illegally harvests cash from applicants under the guise of B.Ed admissions. It is a racket.
The student leaders intend to take the matter to the Gauhati High Court. They are currently preparing a legal case to force an investigation into the school's operations. The group also linked the institution to the previous theft of scholarship money earmarked for minority students.
Tensions boiled over when the school's management allegedly assaulted journalists. The student leaders denounced the violence as an attack on their rights. "The organisation further claimed that the institution's name had earlier surfaced in connection with the alleged misappropriation of scholarship funds meant for minority students." The HAM-EK Group of Institutions has yet to issue a formal response.
